Status of Fall Football

 Status of Fall Football

By: Billy Splain | PSFCA | July 16, 2020

I would like to take this opportunity to discuss where we are regarding playing football this fall. There have been numerous questions fielded by the PSFCA and the PIAA offices.   As most of you know the PIAA had a meeting Wednesday July 15, 2020 and Dr. Lombardi announced that they are going to continue with their plans to start Fall Sports (Football) on August 10. It is exciting to know that the fall date is still in place and that all of you can continue with your preparations for the season.

As you are preparing please follow all guidelines put in place by your district. Everyone still needs to be patient because of the many unknowns still to come.   Know that the PIAA is working with our association and other agencies to formulate guidelines for the fall season.

Our communication with the PIAA has broached all the questions that are out there. Answers are forthcoming and I feel that many of your worries and concerns will be addressed. These topics have been discussed for several weeks and they are constantly being revised and updated due to current situation with the Corona Virus and the Governor's Office.

Finally, the health and welfare of the players, coaches, and all supporting groups are the most important issue that we have under these unforeseen circumstances. Please continue to work with your Athletic Director and school district to ensure the safety of all. Help foster safe conditions for your athletes so that they may have a meaningful and productive experience. There will be more to come from the PIAA after their July 22, 2020 steering committee meeting. I have been assured that information will come from Dr. Lombardi to help you have a clear picture of all aspects that pertain to our sport.

Sincerely,

Garry Cathell
